Active Transportation

Walk & Wheel to School

The Walk & Wheel to School (W&W) initiative is a fun and free offering for schools in the capital region. Its goal is to support schools to celebrate and encourage students and their families to choose active travel for all or part of their usual commute to school by offering free resources to help schools run celebratory event(s) when most convenient for them.

Check out our Walk & Wheel to School Activity Guidebook [PDF/1MB] which has information, tools and ideas to help your school or classroom run a successful Walk & Wheel to School event.

Changes to Walk & Wheel to School

Historically, Walk & Wheel to School was run as an annual, week-long event in October. W&W is now offered as an on-demand model, where schools (or individual classrooms) can use the resources in the activity guidebook throughout the school year to run an event when it is convenient for them.

  • W&W can now take place any time in the school year
  • W&W events can be run for any duration of time – choose to run W&W Wednesdays, W&W Week, W&W Month, etc.
  • If desired, W&W events can happen multiple times a year
  • W&W can be classroom or whole school based
