The Capital Regional District (CRD) has located and removed the blockage in the Residual Solids Conveyance Line, which was found in a section of pipe beneath the Trans-Canada Highway near the McKenzie Interchange. This line transports residual solids from the McLoughlin Point Wastewater Treatment Plant (MPWTP) to the Residual Treatment Facility at Hartland Landfill. Work is now underway to restore normal flow through the line in the coming days.
Until normal flow can be restored, Residual solids from the MPWTP continue to be transported by truck through the municipalities of Esquimalt, Saanich, Victoria, and View Royal to locations at Interurban Road and Courtland Avenue and the Hartland Landfill in Saanich. The CRD is actively working to reduce impacts on residential neighbourhoods.
This temporary measure is necessary to maintain operations, but has resulted in:
- Increased 24-hour truck traffic with potential traffic interruption and delays
- Potential odour issues
- Additional noise impacts
We understand the impact this is having on residents and are working diligently to restore service as quickly as possible. We appreciate your patience as this work is completed.
The next update will be provided on Monday, November 24. Please visit www.crd.ca/alerts.
