Homeowners
Talk to your contractor before starting a home renovation or demolition or visit our Home Renovations page before starting any work yourself. Because of the health risks, we recommend homeowners hire abatement professionals to help identify, remove and/or haul asbestos containing materials (ACM). Here is a list of local companies that can assist with surveys, testing and safe removal.

Out-of-region Asbestos Disposal
Asbestos waste generated outside of the capital region is accepted at Hartland Landfill from commercial customers and homeowners.
What is asbestos?
Asbestos is a group of mineral fibres that resist fire, heat and electricity. It was used up until 1990 in thousands of building materials as it was a value-added product resistant to weathering and fire. Renovation and demolition of older houses containing asbestos products can release hazardous asbestos fibres into the air. Inhalation of asbestos fibres can lead to lung scarring and cancer, and can be fatal.
