Source Water
Wilderness Mountain drinking water comes from Wilfred Reservoir, a small surface water body which lies within a protected watershed. The reservoir was created via the construction of two dams.
Water Treatment Process
Water from Wilfred Reservoir enters the Wilderness Mountain Treatment Plant. The water treatment process consists of cartridge filtration, ultraviolet (UV) disinfection and chloramine disinfection. The chloraminated water is then pumped into two storage tanks before being distributed.
Distribution System
Disinfected water is pumped into one of two concrete storage tanks with a combined capacity of 250 cubic metres and is distributed to customers through a 3,750 metre network of 150 mm (6") and 100 mm (4") PVC watermains.
The distribution system also contains hydrants and standpipes. Service connections are provided to the property line with curb stops and individual household meters. Service from the property line to the dwelling is the homeowners’ responsibility.
Emergency Notifications
Register for the Public Alert Notification System to receive drinking water related notifications such as boil water advisories. This system is also used to notify Electoral Area residents in the event of a disaster or emergency such as earthquakes, tsunami warnings, or hazardous spills.
