One of the most important ways the CRD protects drinking water is by safeguarding the water supply area. Greater Victoria’s primary water supply comes from the Sooke Lake Watershed, with additional supply from the Goldstream Watershed and future supply planned from the Leech Watershed. The CRD owns approximately 98 per cent of the lands surrounding these watersheds, helping protect water quality at the source.
Get to Know Your H2O Tours
Join us on a 5.5 hour tour to learn more about where your water comes from and how it is protected and treated. The tour follows the flow of our water supply starting at the north end of Sooke Lake Reservoir to the surrounding forests and Rithet Creek, the main tributary to Sooke Lake Reservoir.
During the tour you will have an opportunity to explore Sooke Lake Dam, go on a forest walk to explore the ecosystems that support our water supply, and visit the Goldstream Ultraviolet Treatment plant to learn about the water treatment process that provides Greater Victoria with award winning drinking water.
