Juan de Fuca Search and Rescue

The Juan De Fuca Search and Rescue (JdF SAR) team performs organized, methodical searching for lost persons.

The group is based in the Juan de Fuca electoral area and provides inland waters and ground search and rescue services to the entire electoral area. The CRD provides operational oversight and administration for the JdF SAR program.

The JdF SAR team is a group of over 30 volunteer members trained and certified by the Province of BC and the Justice Institute. Members also provide mutual aid to other SAR teams, local RCMP and ambulance services when requested. 

Members are trained in ground search and rescue, first aid, tracking, wilderness navigation, survival, rope rescue and swift water rescue. 

CRD Bylaws provide the team with a budget to purchase vehicles, equipment, training, and a building to train in. Emergency Management BC covers response costs.

Salt Spring Island Search and Rescue

The Salt Spring Island Search and Rescue (SSI SAR) Society is an experienced and well-trained ground search and rescue group that performs organized, methodical searching for lost persons.

With a team of over thirty volunteers, SSI SAR provides ground search and rescue services that include tracking, high angle rescue, first aid, wilderness navigation, survival radio communications and helicopter safety. 

The service’s area of operation includes all islands, large and small, within the Salt Spring Island and Southern Gulf Islands electoral areas. The team provides mutual aid to other SAR teams and first responder agencies when requested.
