Regional Planning

The Capital Regional District (CRD) provides information and analysis of the region’s population, development, land use, transportation, food and agriculture, housing and employment trends. In partnership with local governments and communities, the CRD develops and implements the Regional Growth Strategy (RGS) which outlines the regions long term growth objectives.

The region continues to experience strong population growth, increasing by 1.6% in 2024 and by 25% since 2011. From 2011 to 2024, the population has increased from 346,900 to an estimated 460,000. As the population continues to grow, effective regional growth and transportation planning are essential to support sustainability and quality of life.
