2026 General Local Elections

Each local government is responsible for running its own local elections and assent voting in compliance with legislation. 

The next General Local Elections will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026

CRD Elections

Every four years the Capital Regional District (CRD) conducts local general elections for:

  • Juan de Fuca Electoral Area Director (East Sooke, Malahat, Otter Point, Port Renfrew, Shirley/Jordan River, Willis Point)
  • Juan de Fuca Land Use Committee (East Sooke, Malahat, Otter Point, Port Renfrew, Shirley/Jordan River, Willis Point)
  • Salt Spring Island Electoral Area Director
  • Salt Spring Island Local Community Commission
  • Southern Gulf Islands Electoral Area Director (Galiano, Mayne, North Pender, South Pender, Piers, Saturna)

At the same time, the CRD also administers voting on behalf of: 

Municipal Elections

If you live in a municipality, your local government runs its own election. Visit your municipality’s website for voting details and candidate information. 

Key Dates

Important dates and notices will be published as the election approaches. Check this web page regularly for updates. 

  • Nomination period:  9:00am September 1, 2026 - 4:00pm September 11, 2026 
  • Declaration of candidates: September 11, 2026
  • Advance voting days: October 7, 2026 and October 14, 2026
  • General voting day: October 17, 2026
