Public Drop-off Depot

The Hartland Public Drop-off Depot is a convenient way for residents and small commercial customers (maximum vehicle size: 5,500kg GVW) to recycle, reuse and dispose of old and unwanted household items. Our user-friendly location makes it safe and easy to drop off materials.

Before your visit

  • Keep materials separated and organized. This will make it easier to put materials into the right bins.
  • Make sure your waste loads are covered and secured in your vehicle to prevent littering  (penalties in effect).
  • You are responsible for all unloading of materials.
  • For your safety, wear closed-toed shoes and always keep children and pets inside the vehicle.
  • Charges will apply for some business recycling.

Material sorting rules reminder

Clean wood (pallets, lumber off-cuts), treated wood (painted, stained, engineered wood products) and asphalt shingles must arrive at the Hartland Depot separated from garbage and reno/demo waste. Fines are in effect if these materials arrive comingled with garbage or reno/demo waste.

During your visit

  • Follow the signs to the general public scale where the attendant will ask what materials you have, weigh your vehicle and direct you to either the recycling area or pay-by-weight area for unloading. If you have both pay-by-weight-items and free items, you will drop-off the pay-by-weight-items first, weigh out and pay, then join the queue again to enter the recycling area.
  • Follow signs and instructions from attendants for proper disposal.
  • If you've only dropped off free items, you may exit the site without weighing out. If you've dropped off pay-by-weight materials you must return to the public scale to weigh out and pay.
  • Payment is calculated on the weight difference. Example: 250 kgs (550 lbs) of garbage at $155/tonne = $48.75 ($38.75 + $10 bin user fee).
