The CRD launches a new online Emergency Dashboard

Victoria, BC– The Capital Regional District (CRD) has launched a new online dashboard that brings together regional emergency information from local, provincial, and federal partners. The Emergency Dashboard highlights current emergency alerts and provides a centralized system for accessing emergency and preparedness resources. It monitors and displays emerging threats and current situations, such as extreme weather warnings, localized emergency alerts, wildfires, air quality warnings, tsunami and seismic events, road closures, and more, all in a single, easily accessible site. This improves access to timely and accurate emergency information in multiple language formats. To access the dashboard, visit emergency.crd.ca/.

“As a region with diverse geography, varying weather conditions and many risks, we have developed a new awareness tool with our regional partners that consolidates public safety information from credible sources to help communities prepare for and respond to disasters and other challenges quickly. The Emergency Dashboard can be used before, during and after an emergency as a timely source of important information,” said Shawn Carby, Senior Manager of Protective Services.

Residents are also encouraged to sign up for local alert systems their specific municipality or area may have in place to receive timely, reliable public safety notifications. To find your local Public Alert Notification System visit www.prepareyourself.ca/get-connected/how-stay-informed.

The CRD provides this emergency information system in coordination with local emergency programs to strengthen the capacity to manage an emergency event or regional disaster and to raise public awareness. The CRD delivers regional and subregional services such as 9-1-1 call answer and hazardous materials response. As the local government for three electoral areas (Salt Spring Island, Southern Gulf Islands and Juan de Fuca), the CRD supports their volunteer fire departments and local-level emergency services as well as search and rescue programs. Collaborating with other agencies and partners ensures a coordinated and effective response to regional emergencies.
