The trail remains closed between Cecelia Road and Viaduct Park due to potential slope instability.

For public safety, please continue to keep out of the closure zone and follow all posted signage. Detour via Waterfront Crescent, Jutland Road, Cecelia Road, and Napier Lane. See map for details [PDF/6.5MB].

CRD staff continue to work collaboratively with the private property owner who has engaged engineers to assess the condition of the structures on their property. As of Feb.3, the CRD has received a report from the property owner's engineers outlining potential options for reopening the trail while protecting CRD sewer infrastructure. The property owner’s engineers are engaging a contractor to install temporary measures to protect the CRD sewer and trail users.  As well, WorkSafe conditions are being developed to allow contractors to safely enter the area and carry out planned work associated with the CRD trail widening and lighting project, and City of Victoria sewer replacement project.

As of today, Feb.3, there is no date set for reopening of this section of trail. It is important to note that the length of time to complete any risk mitigation options will depend on the complexity and scope of the work necessary to ensure, first and foremost, that public safety and infrastructure are protected.

This portion of the Galloping Goose Regional Trail experiences high volume, and has been closed since Nov. 17, 2025 due to prior BC Hydro work in the area. The CRD recognizes that this extended closure has impacted trail users and is working to remedy the situation as soon as safely possible.

The next update on this closure will be provided in one week, on Tuesday, Feb.10, unless new information becomes available sooner.
