The Ganges Harbourwalk Project is a community project being developed in consultation with local stakeholders.

The Capital Regional District (CRD) will be responsible for the design and construction of the harbourwalk. The project design is divided into six phases:

  1. Assessments
  2. Conceptual designs
  3. Detailed designs and magnitude costs
  4. Secure tenure area
  5. Secure project funding
  6. Construction

The Ganges Harbourwalk Project was awarded $150,000 in Community Works Funds to initiate the planning work. Part of this funding has been used for Phase 1 to assess the existing boardwalk structure and feasibility of rehabilitating or replacing sections of the boardwalk that have been closed. Studies for archeological, environmental, geotechnical and structural have now been completed.

Conceptual designs are currently being developed for consultation with Frist Nations, Upland owners and the community.

The Ganges Harbourwalk Steering Committee was established by the CRD Board to oversee the project as it progresses and seek ways to secure funding to construct the final harbour alignment.
