CRD Launches New Public Website

Victoria, BC– The Capital Regional District (CRD) has launched a new public website as part of its efforts to improve access to information and services online. The website receives more than 2 million visits per year and the previous design served the organization for about 10 years. The new website has been modernized to be more user-friendly, dynamic, and accessible following feedback from the community.

The new website now has an updated address www.crd.ca and there are several features designed to enhance how residents interact with CRD services and stay informed:

  • Dedicated community pages provide tailored information for specific areas within the CRD, helping residents quickly locate relevant resources and updates;
  • Email subscription options allow users to receive updates from the CRD directly, ensuring they remain aware of important changes, events, and service updates; and
  • A feedback form has been added to every web page to proactively invite feedback to identify areas where content needs to be improved or simplified for all users.

Launching as part of the new website is the “What Goes Where” tool, a one-stop shop for looking up products across various waste streams. This tool is available as part of the CRDrecycle app and on the website, adding value for those who also use the app for bluebox reminders.

Information about the CRD and how we are governed has been simplified with a new bylaw directory, a section on public participation and voting, and a searchable list of CRD, Capital Regional Hospital District, and Capital Region Housing Corporation Boards plus over 70 commissions and committees that oversee operations. Agendas and minutes for past meetings are available on their respective pages, and details on upcoming meetings can be found in the meeting schedule.

The new CRD website not only enhances usability and access to information but also prioritizes security, accessibility, and inclusivity. Designed to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG standards), the new site offers automated translation features, ensuring a welcoming experience for all residents, including those using assistive technologies. With its mobile-friendly design and improved search capabilities, the CRD is committed to delivering a modern and responsive platform for all users.
