Repairs to the high-pressure regional water transmission main on the Trans-Canada Highway between the Island Highway and Six Mile Road overpasses are complete.

The northbound lane of the Trans-Canada Highway that was closed during repairs has reopened.

The 1.2 metre (four-foot) diameter steel water main is one of the largest mains in the water transmission system. It serves communities on the Saanich Peninsula, including Sidney, Central Saanich, North Saanich, W̱SIKEM (Tseycum) First Nation, SȾÁUTW̱ (Tsawout) First Nation, W̱JOȽEȽP (Tsartlip) First Nation and BOḰEĆEN (Pauquachin) First Nation and Saanich including West Saanich, Knockan Hill, Royal Oak, Prospect Lake, and portions of northwest Saanich.

Thank you to residents and businesses in the Saanich Peninsula and a portion of Saanich for reducing water use during peak demand periods in the morning and early evening. Whenever work is being completed on the water system, reducing demand during peak water use periods helps maintain reliable service.

One additional section of the transmission main in Saanich has been identified for repair before the end of the year.
