Emergency repairs to a high-pressure regional water transmission main in View Royal are now complete and water use can return to normal.
The Capital Regional District (CRD) has completed emergency repairs to a high-pressure regional water transmission main in View Royal, located on the Trans-Canada Highway between the Island Highway and Six Mile Road overpasses.
Water use can return to normal for residents and businesses in Sidney, Central Saanich, North Saanich, W̱SIḴEM (Tseycum) First Nation, SȾÁUTW̱ (Tsawout) First Nation, W̱JOȽEȽP (Tsartlip) First Nation, BOḰEĆEN (Pauquachin) First Nation and a portion of Saanich.
During the repairs, water was supplied to affected communities through alternate transmission infrastructure with lower pressure and less capacity than the primary transmission main. To reduce the risk of low-pressure conditions in some parts of the system, the CRD asked residents and businesses to reduce non-essential water use, such as outdoor watering and car washing.
While the immediate repairs are complete and have been found to be the result of corrosion, the work identified the need for further condition assessment. This further investigation will be carried out in the coming weeks.
