Victoria, BC– The Capital Regional District (CRD) is expanding its Beyond the Curb drop-off program for recyclable materials with new year-round locations in Oak Bay and Langford, making it easier for residents to recycle a wider range of materials closer to home.
The new hubs build on the success of the existing Beyond the Curb Hub in Colwood and seasonal market locations. The hubs provide convenient, free drop-off options for depot-only recyclables, including foam packaging, flexible plastics, household batteries, electronics, and lightbulbs. They also accept household paper and packaging materials, including glass bottles and jars.
The program is designed to ensure as many residents as possible have access to consistent and convenient drop-off locations for a wide range of recyclable materials while reducing transportation challenges. Hub locations have been selected to improve access by locating them near recreation centres, transit exchanges, and cycling infrastructure.
Beyond the Curb Hub Locations
CRD residents can use any Beyond the Curb Hub, regardless of which municipality they live in. Staff are available on-site to help residents determine what materials are accepted and how to participate.
Hubs are open year-round on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Materials accepted at Beyond the Curb Hubs
- Foam packaging, such as meat trays and protective packaging
- Flexible plastics, such as chip bags, cereal bags, produce netting, zipper-lock bags, and wrappers
- Cardboard
- Paper, including cereal boxes, paper bags, and newspapers
- Mixed containers, such as coffee cups, soup cartons, metal cans, and plastic clamshells
- Glass bottles and jars, such as pickle jars and olive oil bottles
- Household batteries, both rechargeable and single-use
- Electronics, including laptops, phones, keyboards, remote controls, battery-powered toys, and items with a cord
- Lightbulbs
- Beverage containers (for donation only—no deposit refunds are issued on site)
The Beyond the Curb program supports the CRD’s Solid Waste Management Plan by keeping recyclable materials out of the garbage. Recycling materials into new products reduces reliance on virgin materials, supports a circular economy, and helps to conserve the remaining capacity of Hartland Landfill.
