The Capital Regional District (CRD) is inviting residents to learn more about serving in elected roles within the CRD's electoral areas.
Every four years, the CRD conducts local general elections for:
- Electoral Area Directors:
- Juan de Fuca (East Sooke, Malahat, Otter Point, Port Renfrew, Shirley/Jordan River, Willis Point)
- Salt Spring Island
- Southern Gulf Islands (Galiano, Mayne, North Pender, South Pender, Piers, Saturna)
- Juan de Fuca Land Use Committee Members (East Sooke, Malahat, Otter Point, Port Renfrew, Shirley/Jordan River, Willis Point)
- Salt Spring Island Local Community Commissioners
The CRD has scheduled Candidate Information Sessions for anyone considering running in the upcoming election. The sessions are an opportunity to learn about the roles and responsibilities of elected officials, how local governance works within the CRD, the expected time commitment, remuneration, and the nomination process. Participants will also have the chance to ask questions and explore whether serving in local government is the right fit for them.

Salt Spring Island Candidate Information Session
- Date: Wednesday, August 19
- Time: 10:30am - 12pm

Residents who want to make a difference in their community and help shape local decision-making are encouraged to consider running for office.
To be eligible for nomination, candidates must be Canadian citizens, at least 18 years old on general voting day (October 17, 2026) and have lived in British Columbia for at least six months immediately before filing nomination papers.
Nomination packages are now available and must be submitted during the nomination period September 1, 2026, at 9am to September 11, 2026 at 4pm. It is recommended that prospective candidates arrange an appointment with election officials to review their documentation.
