Make the Switch | Why it is important to change the times on your automated sprinkler system

The official start of summer is almost here and with that comes reminder to residents who have automated irrigation or sprinkler systems.  Please change the default timer settings. Here's why.

Did you know that most irrigation systems are automated to turn on at 4:00am? Not a big deal when it’s just one system. But there are thousands of irrigation systems in the Capital Region, and when they all turn on at the same time, it draws so much water so quickly that our infrastructure has a hard time responding!

This intense change in demand instantaneously affects adequate flow, pressure and high water quality standards. This could lead to temporary loss of water service for thousands of homes, boil water advisories, requiring extra precautions for daily use, and costly repairs and disruptions that affect the entire community.

So make the switch on timed sprinkler systems to an unconventional time like 12:19am or 5:21am.  That small change will make a big difference. To learn more check out our in-depth video.

Thank you to all that have already made the switch. Last year we saw the impact, this year let's see an even bigger impact.
