Provincial Decision Made on Crown Land Use Applications in East Sooke Regional Park

The Province of British Columbia has not approved three related Crown land applications submitted by One with Nature Corp. to establish a commercial outdoor education and wilderness training operation on land within East Sooke Regional Park.

The applications were originally submitted in 2022. In early December of 2025, the Capital Regional District (CRD) received a referral from the province asking for feedback related to a Commercial General Use Application by One With Nature Corp. for Crown land within the park.

Comment was provided back to the province by the deadline of Jan. 25, 2026, that indicated the CRD was strongly opposed to the applications for several reasons. This included the fact that the CRD owns the surrounding lands and currently manages public use of the trails across one of the parcels.

East Sooke Regional Park is one of the CRD’s busiest parks with nearly 250,000 visits annually. The proposal intersected two official trails, including the busiest trail within the park, and had the potential to impact public use and access.

The CRD is supportive of the province’s determination that the applications did not represent an appropriate or beneficial use of the Crown land in question.
