Witty’s Lagoon Regional Park (Metchosin)
Join expert birder, Geoffrey Newell, and a CRD parks naturalist for this guided walk. Songbirds nest and sing in the thickets around the lagoon and shorebirds rest on the mudflats during fall migration, which has already started in July. Raptors patrol the skies and seabirds gather off the beach. More than 60 species may be encountered on a single visit, making Witty’s Lagoon a paradise for birds, and a birder’s paradise. Bring binoculars if you have them.
Meeting place: The information kiosk at the main entrance off Metchosin Road. This walk will end at the beach.
Trail Description: 1.2km down to beach; 500m on beach. A steep wide gravel trail near the main parking lot, leading to a narrow trail with tree roots with steep and slight inclines along the way. The beach is a combination of sandy and rocky areas. Accessible washrooms available near parking lot.
