CRD Launches Beyond the Curb Flexible Plastics and Foam Packaging Drop-offs

Capital Regional District (CRD) residents now have more free, accessible locations to recycle household soft and flexible plastics, and foam packaging. From May through October, the Beyond the Curb program will be accepting these materials at select community markets, making it easier than ever to recycle items that aren’t accepted through the curbside blue box program or through most apartment recycling programs.

Flexible plastics and foam packaging often make up a significant portion of household waste. The Beyond the Curb program was designed to increase access and reduce barriers many residents face to properly recycle these items including uncertainty about how or where to dispose of them, limited transportation, and associated costs.

All CRD residents are welcome to participate in the program at whichever location works best for them, regardless of which municipality they live in. Dropping off flexible plastics and foam packaging is now as easy as visiting your community market! Staff will be on-site to answer questions and assist with sorting accepted items. Connect with your neighbours, support local businesses, and don’t forget to drop-off your recyclables.

The following markets will be hosting CRD’s Beyond the Curb Recycling Pop-up Depot. More locations will be added throughout the season; please check back for updated information.

Victoria

  • James Bay Market: Saturdays 9am - 3pm; May 9 – October 3
  • Moss St. Market:  Saturdays 10am - 2pm; May 9 – October 31

North Saanich

Efforts to reduce landfilled waste lengthens the lifespan of Hartland Landfill and contributes to a more sustainable region. Flexible plastics and foam packaging are both non-renewable resources. Recycling these materials into new products extends their usable lifespan and supports a circular economy.

Let’s keep recyclables out of the landfill! For more information on how to dispose of household waste visit crd.ca/whatgoeswhere.
