Victoria, BC– The Capital Regional District (CRD) is developing a new Regional Transportation Plan (Plan) that will guide how people and goods move around the region for the next 30 years. To help inform the Plan, the public is invited to share their experiences and transportation priorities in an online survey.

“Transportation affects everyone and hearing from people across the region will help build an effective Plan,” said Transportation Committee Chair Dean Murdock. “How people move across the region influences access to jobs, schools, healthcare, housing, recreation, and services. It also affects traffic congestion, safety, affordability, economic activity, and quality of life. As the region continues to grow, the Regional Transportation Plan will help the region make thoughtful, coordinated decisions about future transportation priorities and investments.”

Public input is a key part of developing the Regional Transportation Plan, and the CRD encourages the public to complete the online survey available June 15 to July 5, 2026 at GetInvolved.crd.bc.ca/MovingTogether. Everybody across the region, including residents, community organizations, businesses, international or out-of-province students, and visitors are encouraged to complete the survey.

Input gathered from the survey will help shape the overall direction of the Plan alongside technical analysis, regional and provincial priorities, and implementation considerations. Community feedback will help:

  • Identify transportation priorities and concerns
  • Better understand lived experiences across different communities
  • Inform regional transportation goals and future directions
  • Ensure the plan reflects diverse perspectives and needs

As part of earlier and continued engagement, the CRD received input from regional partners, member municipalities, Indigenous partners, University of Victoria students, and interest holders. A What We Learned report outlining input to date is available at GetInvolved.crd.bc.ca/MovingTogether and summarizes what participants identified as the region’s biggest transportation challenges and opportunities.

The current Regional Transportation Plan has been in place since 2014, and a lot has changed since then.  Our region has grown significantly and so have our transportation needs. In June 2025, the CRD Board created a new Regional Transportation Service that is leading the development of the updated Regional Transportation Plan. The Plan will identify what the Service’s priorities are, while reaffirming the regional transportation vision and goals. This will translate into the actions, programs, policies, and investments that will be prioritized to reach the transportation goals.

Once input and analysis is complete, the draft Regional Transportation Plan will be shared for additional public feedback ahead of a final draft presentation to the CRD Board in late 2027. The approved Regional Transportation Plan will serve as the strategic framework for the Regional Transportation Service, which will lead and coordinate implementation with partners to advance the Plan’s actions and outcomes.
