The CRD’s East Coast Interceptor and Northeast Trunk Bowker sanitary sewer systems are made from large diameter cast-in-place brick and non-reinforced concrete pipes. Based on results of CCTV inspection, about 1.1km of the system in the City of Victoria and about 1.5m of the system in Oak Bay are deteriorating and must be rehabilitated. The pipes will be lined from the inside using a trenchless restoration method, cured-in-place-pipe (CIPP) lining to minimize above ground disturbance.
System upgrade construction was completed in the Fall of 2024.
