The Regional Network of Public Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Stations Project will expand access to electric vehicle charging infrastructure throughout the Capital Regional District (CRD), including Greater Victoria and the Southern Gulf Islands. Led by the CRD in partnership with local municipalities, the initiative will support the transition to low-carbon transportation by improving the availability and convenience of public EV charging across the region. The network will include a mix of Level 2 and direct-current fast charging stations installed at publicly accessible locations to serve residents, businesses, and visitors.
The project is supported through joint investment from federal, provincial, regional, and municipal partners and is intended to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, support climate action goals, and encourage greater adoption of electric vehicles. Funding was provided by the provincial and federal governments through the CleanBC Communities Fund and the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Fund. The CRD is coordinating closely with participating municipalities to identify optimal charger locations and determine the most appropriate ownership and operational model for each community’s charging infrastructure.
