Background

The Magic Lake Estates (MLE) Sewer Service upgrade works have been underway over the last few years to address the issues facing the aging and failing infrastructure. Project Funding

Funding for this project is provided by the Green Infrastructure - Investing In Canada Grant Program and Magic Lake Estates Sewer Service.

Project Description

The construction phase of the MLE project will begin in May of 2023. The project includes the decommissioning of the Cannon wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) which will be replaced with a pump station to divert flows for treatment at Schooner WWTP. Schooner WWTP will be upgraded to treat the additional flows from Cannon pump station which includes replacement of other equipment to improve the health, safety, and overall reliability of the facility. At Galleon and Schooner pump stations, the mechanical and electrical components will be replaced, and the remaining pump stations will receive new communication infrastructure.

Future upgrades will focus work at the following facilities:

  • Masthead Pump Station
  • Cutlass Pump Station
  • Buccaneer Pump Station
  • Capstan Pump Station

Magic Lake Estates Wetland Restoration Project

As a result of having to remove some wetlands to complete the wastewater treatment plant project, the CRD will be creating a new wetland area in the adjacent Buck Lake vicinity. The wetland restoration work will begin in the Summer of 2024.
