Burnside Heritage Mural

Description

In November 2005, the Burnside Gorge Community Association received a grant through the Community Public Art Program of the City of Victoria. Frank Lewis was commissioned to produce a mural showing scenes of the neighbourhood from its original people to those of today. Cloverdale Paint donated all the paint.

Artist statement

Because the mural was designed to be painted by volunteers of varying artistic abilities, the maquette was produced using cut out paper to keep the shapes simple and provide big blocks of colour to paint. Although the subject matter is historical, the emphasis in the design is on bright colour, a spirit of fun, whimsy, and welcome - the presentation of a good place to be.
