Cementing Quadra's Community - A Community Mosaic Project 2006, facilitated

Description

The six panels tell the story of Quadra Elementary Scool from the 1912 era to the present day. The process and product all created by the whole student body from design, mosaicing and grouting, documentation and on to the celebration and unveiling events. More than 400 people participated in this Community Unity Project. Sponsorship: Art Starts Grant $2,000; Art Council/City Etc. $3,500; VanCity $150

Life is Art. Throughout my journey, may I be honest with my Inspiration, my fellow Earth dwellers and myself. Always looking forward to impossible!

Biography

Schlackl discovered community art after several years producing art. Shylene teaches art through a community development program.

In 2003 she formed the Mosaic The City Community Unity Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to creating "Community Unity" through creative mosaic projects. Four years later, over 3,000 people have worked on 15+ projects and created 60 mosaics around Victoria and beyond.
