Biography

Eli Hirtle is a Nehiyaw (Cree) /Scottish/British/German multidisciplinary artist. His home community is Wabasca, Alberta, part of the Bigstone Cree Nation. Eli is a photographer, filmmaker and storyteller interested in documenting Indigenous cultural resurgence and revitalization.

Resume

Hirtle’s interests revolve around the Nehiyawewin language, and the possibilities for art to educate, inform, and instigate critical discussions. Eli attended Camosun College's Indigenous Family Support Certificate Program and works with Indigenous youth to empower and inspire their creative voices and expression. In 2018 he became the Aboriginal Curator at Open Space, an artist-run centre in Victoria.
