CRD Animal Care Services provides dog licencing for Langford, Colwood, Sooke, Metchosin, Highlands, View Royal, Juan de Fuca Electoral Area, Southern Gulf Islands, Salt Spring Island and Songhees First Nation.
Licences are mandatory for all dogs four months or older in the Capital Regional District (CRD). A licence gives your dog an identity that is connected to you.
Here's how it works: your information is entered into a database that can only be accessed by Bylaw and Animal Care Services. If your dog is wearing a licence when it goes for a "walkabout," staff are able to look up this information and reunite you with your pet.
In short, a dog licence is your dog's best ticket home.

Once staff set up your account, they will email you back with your dog licence account number instructions for how to pay online.
Your dog's licence is valid for the calendar year, from January 1 to December 31. You must renew your licence once a year.
You are advised to buy your new licence ahead of time. Please note that you are responsible for purchasing one, whether or not you receive a renewal notice.
There are a number of fee options. Early discounts as well as late fees are in effect.
The most inexpensive way to purchase a licence is to buy before December 31 for a neutered or spayed animal. Prices will almost double for late licence purchases for an unsterilized dog.

Residents of larger municipalities in the CRD Bylaw Enforcement area can purchase a licence at their municipal hall. Residents of smaller municipalities and Electoral Areas can purchase one from select vendors or Animal Care Services.

You can save time by renewing your dog licence online. It's as easy as paying a bill.
Look for the online banking account number on your renewal form. This is a six-digit number starting with 8. Select CRD as a payee, enter your account number and pay the amount on the renewal form. See the list below for your financial institutions payee search terms.
Please note that we cannot accept Interac e-transfers.
Once paid, a licence will be mailed to you using the information linked to your account number (the same address on your renewal form).
Licences are only mailed to those who request it. If you have a permanent CRD dog licence (silver heart) you will not receive a new tag when you renew; you are renewing your existing tag.

The CRD conducts its business within the Territories of many First Nations, all of whom have a long-standing relationship with the land and waters from time immemorial that continues to this day. Statement of Reconciliation
