Cedars of Tuam

About the System

The Cedars of Tuam Water System is located on the south side of Fulford Harbour on Salt Spring Island and provides drinking water to approximately 16 service connections.

CRD's Infrastructure & Water Services is responsible for the overall operation of the water system with day-to-day operation and maintenance, design and construction of water system facilities provided by CRD's Infrastructure Engineering & Planning and Water Operations divisions. The quality of drinking water provided to customers in the Cedars of Tuam Water System is overseen by CRD's Water Quality division.

NOTE: Annual Reports are available late June for the previous year.

Water Restrictions

The Electoral Area Water Conservation Bylaw (4492) is in effect May 1 to September 30, unless otherwise authorized by the General Manager of Infrastructure & Water Services.

Source Water

The Cedars of Tuam Water System obtains its drinking water from a deep well located 200m south of Roland Road.

Water Treatment Process

The well water is treated at the well head using chlorine (liquid sodium hypochlorite) disinfection.

Distribution System

The disinfected water is pumped to a 40,000 litre storage reservoir adjacent to the well and then is distributed to customers through a 100mm (4") water main that runs along Roland Road. The distribution system contains two standpipes located at opposite ends of the distribution system. Service connections are provided to the property with curb stops and individual household meters. Service from the property line to the dwelling is the homeowners’ responsibility.

Emergency Notifications

Register for the Public Alert Notification System to receive drinking water related notifications such as boil water advisories. This system is also used to notify Electoral Area residents in the event of a disaster or emergency such as earthquakes, tsunami warnings, or hazardous spills.
