On January 7, 2025 commercial vehicles began using the north entrance (280B Willis Point Rd.) to access the active face and Kitchen Scraps Transfer Station as the internal roads from the main entrance (1 Hartland Avenue) are not safe for the higher traffic volume. Staff are projecting a daily average of 120 commercial trucks (80-90 large load trucks and 30-40 small load trucks) will access Hartland Landfill via the north entrance.
Community Consultation
In May 2021, based on community feedback about commercial traffic access switching to Hartland Landfill’s north entrance, the Capital Regional District (CRD) Board allotted $4 million for Hartland area road improvements. In October 2022, following consultation with community associations, the CRD Board reviewed the options and approved funding the following intersections as part of the Hartland Landfill Neighbourhood Intersection Improvement project:
- Willis Point Road/Wallace Drive Intersection
- Wallace Drive/West Saanich Road Intersection
- West Saanich Road/Hartland Avenue Intersection
The estimated completion of the of the road improvements is May 2025.
